Day 3- Not quite coasting yet

Day 3 was definitely a little more downhill after Day 2's major climbs, but the long rides continue to be a challenge for Lance, but our well-trained Rotarian continues to be up to the task. On with today's report.

Another early morning and we headed out from Carroll as the sun rose. One of the challenges is always finding your own bike in the rack (this one is at Churdan, IA.  Lance tied a pink bow on his to help, see if you can find it in the picture.
Lots of interesting things as we rode today, not the least of which were some fellows on unicycles. Lance definitely gave it some thought, but decided to keep his two-wheeler approach. He even thought about a 3-wheeler or more, but decided to just stick it out.

You may have noticed a Post Office them the last few days. It is a tradition to visit as many post offices as possible and today Lance posed in front of two; Lidderdale early on,  and later on Paton IA.

Although it was mostly downhill today, there definitely were some major hills, like this one as we approached Des Moines.
For sure we found some interesting things along the way today. Lance's new best friend Harly cheered him as he rode by as well as these Luther's owners along the way. Perhaps the most interesting was this 1926 tractor, which at one point seemed like it was moving faster than Lance, but eventually he was able to pass it with a tremendous push.

Of course, our quest for the ultimate pie in Iowa continued, with this massive apple one along the road; looks like it needs a bit more time in the oven, so we passed for now.

It was a long day, but Lance pushed hard as we arrived in Boone. Followed by a well deserved rest. Way to go Lance, rest up for Day 4, hump ride day.
